Tale of three cities

The oldest is New York City. He is the bigger and the elder brother. Born first into a Middle class American family, NYC is trained to value money and make lots of it. He is harsh, rude and direct. Gets to the point and always deals in the bottom line. His room is decorated with fancy toys and big constructor sets but mostly untidy. He drives a flashy Corvette z06 but also owns a stately MayBach. He believes in quick and incentive based love and sudden changes. Yet despite this hard crust, he accepts people of all kinds and connects with all of them. He is also known to fantastically emotionally strong in desperate times.

His brother, Boston, is far different but equally competitive. He too respects the power of money but is artistically bent too. And while he is not indulging in paints, he loves to read. Boston is intellectual but doesnt flaunt it because he doesnt need to. He loves every kind of sport and enjoys sea food unlike NYCs fanaticism for Pizza and coffee. Drives an Aston Martin but also enjoys his quaint old beetle. Extremely interesting to chat up with but difficult to be close friends with unless you share a similar amount of depth, which is why, He and NYC never, got along.

And finally, their very pretty sister, Chicago! She is stunning to say the least. With excellent choice in clothes, she has never failed to look pretty on a night out. Exquisite taste in accessories and a sweet tooth for cheese cakes! She is perhaps a little too cold and chilly for people that dont know her as yet. She loves shopping and dressing up. A big ego to add to the fact that she is always in the clouds! While she maintains her perfect frame, she does occasionally indulge in red hot dogs! Aloof of what her brothers do, Chicago stands out as the good looking one in the family also the only one who saw it fitting to buy a Maserati.

  • hey dushyant,

very well written !!! i can vouch for the views on NYC and Chicago (not been to boston as yet).i too tend to compare chicago and NYC a lot, but both have their own charm. while NYC is as down-to-earth as my mumbai, chicago is suave and stylish!

Just a little surprised that you didnt talk about San francisco

-Maybe because thats like living in a whole new world altogether, but its very much NYC-like – minus the craze

Just hopped by your blog, very nicely kept.

  • Soumya: Hey! Its the first time you stopped by! Thanks for the comment and yes both those cities possess very unique personalities and while i compare, I love em all! Please keep visiting.

Aradhita: Yes, you should go ahead and do that. I could write books on Nashik Mumbai Pune and Bangalore!

Anon: Thank you for the comment. SF has been on my list ever since i have been here. Yet, i have never gotten a chance to visit it. I am sure i will love it too. For some reason, i am not drawn to LA at all.

  • I cudnt agree more about LA-its all glam ,on the surface, and i am not sure i am attracted to just plain ol glamour world

About SF,i genuinely believe its a beautiful place,i live here,it grows on you..you get used to the traffic..the culture..and it becomes a part of ur life..and i am a libertarian at heart..the liberal ism of this city amuses me..surprises me..but it growns on u..immensely..

Hope you visit Sf sometime and comment on it ,would be nice to read ur comments .

  • hey dushyant…

i feel the same about all the three cities. but its almost like Chicago has always made a conscious effort to get to where NYC is… n in the process is an extremely ‘designed prim n propah place’… NYC like bombay has let itself evovle…sometimes on its own sometimes planned; tht makes it so fascinatin… n boston is almost like an artist who somewhere cares about his earnings too…
so having visited all three I dont which ranks highest in my list…
i love NYC for its pace
    Chicago for its style
    Boston for its character
