“Not all those who wander are lost”

This being my 100th post puts considerable pressure on me to decide on a suitable topic. A recap could be most appropriate however I have promised myself to steer clear of stereotypes as much as possible. So, what should I yak about?

I wrote about God once before. It was very implicit and judging by the number of comments, I have concluded that no one cares about such a topic or that no one got it or the painfully obvious reason, the blog attracted minimal traffic. To be fair, only those who have visited Indian temples would follow that post. My own brother did not understand what the heck I was talking about.

Whatever the reason, I have decided to bring him up again, this God guy, and see what his deal is. (I do not know the gender of GOD or if a gender exists, but if it did, then looking at all the atrocities committed towards children and women, make him impossible to be a woman) Please adjust!

To avoid my effigies being burnt publicly (Have you noticed that very few effigies look like the real person? Most times they just look like farmer’s scarecrows!), I sincerely wish to express that the following views expressed are not intended towards any specific religion. However, if I do offend anybody, I am sorry. This post is purely meant as read (Comment, if you have time) and discard.

Being an engineer and a science fan for most of my life, I have had the good fortune of exposing myself to brilliantly constructed theories on life and how it all began. From Darwin’s theory of natural selection/ evolution to the much recent mathematically based Chaos theory, all of them make a lot of sense. They are well construed by exceptional individuals and offer much more of a believable story then that offered by the religious and mythological scriptures. And when I was sixteen, falling in love and writing exams, I could not find a better answer. I did not hate God but I most certainly walked the streets of Nashik with a Chaos badge.

Things did not change for a long time. My mom wasn’t too happy with my new found intelligence but knew better then to convince a young idiot. And that was that, I left alone to my own device.

Turning older and leaving India changed everything. My harder skin on the outside harbored a completely lost, dazed, and a scared Dushyant inside. A year passed and I still stuck to my scientific friends. In fact, my first year convinced me that all life is just hardships. There is no rescue and there is no faith.

Second year, my hard skin was permanently molded. Materialistically, things got better and I got fatter. A routine was created and money solved almost all of my imminent troubles.

However, the problems kept coming. More money was called for the combat and eventually the problems were terminated. But just like the victory in Iraq having no effect on the gas prices, my victories seemed empty. Furthermore, I refused to accept that a long string of near misses and averted disasters that could have occurred were purely due to a stroke of luck or laws of probability.

I am still a big science fan and drool on technology. My cars are a direct result of scientific knowledge. However, I now have accepted that those things unaccounted for by science have more then negligible significance. Furthermore, no one can answer those questions. None of the current religions, not Stephen Hawkins or any Einstein disciples… Which is why, I have taken it upon myself to define my own answers.

My own faith, My own religion and My own way of saying thanks. I am accountable for every action I take. I alone can make my car dreams come true. I know that I have to take care of my family, my loved one and my friends.

But for everything else that oils my life, I can no longer hold science as the sole provider.

  • happy 100th..

its the things unaccounted for which make life as it is..science then stands as a mere spectator..
though i wish sometimes, ardently, that it wud b so much nicer to hv everything wrking only as a scientific logic and nothing else!

  • God is the Undiscovered Logic.

As we discover him (Him) piece by piece, he becomes science.

And yet, “on the shores of knowledge we have discovered but a grain of sand”…

I guess you (and humanity in general) need your own philosophy to fill the gaping holes.

  • Barring the last line of your comment, Shreya, I completely disagree. Simply because, you included the word “We”. I do not think God is undiscovered logic. I do not think he becomes a science. I dont think we have discovered anything about him. But, as you said, perhaps that is your hole filler!

  • I’d like to second the second last paragraph…My faith, my religion, my choices (and hence the consequences) and I am fanatic about it. All of these things make the whole of me. But all this doesnt mean that ‘you’ and ‘I’ cannot exist on the same plane…as long as we have our own reasons…

    Coincidence indeed 🙂

  • Sigh.. isn it all about the long and short of the art and science of living, irrespective of which route of faith, society, principle, profession and body we embark upon. I know I don’t make much articulate sense, but im trying to mean something.

Also nice to see a ‘non-car’ blog for a change 😉

  • Faith – A human emotion needed to carry one through the ups and downs of a journey that is largely unpredictable and that can more often than not defy logic as defined by humans. Human emotions can vary between being blind, stupid, illogical, and immoral…to being wonderful, uplifting, miraculous, joyful, and generous

It follows that Faith can be blind, stupid, illogical, and immoral. Faith can be wonderful, uplifting, miraculous, joyful, generous, kind.

Religion – Term coined by humans to describe other humans that follow a particular kind of faith .

Heaven : A concept created by Humans to guide a large group of humans down a path established by different groups of large humans as creating the greatest good for the largest number of humans.

Hell : A concept created by Humans to justify their staying on the path deemed as one to Heaven when they see other humans straying from the path established by different groups of large humans as creating the greatest good for the largest number of humans.

Ritual : A procedure followed to stabilize a humans faith created originally by a human based in all likelihood on a cause/effect analysis and built on knowledge existing at that point of time. The procedure morphs into a ritual when new wisdom/knowledge is ignored. Rituals eventually lead to a “bizzaro” faith that can in the short run have a stabilizing influence on a human’s faith but can eventually warp it.

Beleivers : Humans that follow a particular kind of faith.

Agnostics : Humans of a particular faith that is not sure of which faith to follow.

Atheists : Humans of a particular faith that do not believe in any faith.

Fanatics : Humans that move from “Bizzaro” faith to warped faith.

    Humans : The Ultimate Creator.

    God: The Ultimate creators creation.

  • DK: Hey nice to see you again. I agree, I actually did not like what i wrote. I had a point but just could not put it down. Besides, all this is so subjective!

And what do you mean? Most of my blogs are non car, they only have a few strings attached!

Augustborn: Obviously, you have put some thought into this and who am i to disagree. A couple of years ago I walked the same line and could have written that comment myself. However, what you said cannot be applied to all as you yourself cannot prove your postulates.

But G, I respect your opinion and take it with a pinch of salt!

  • Your old post on God struck a chord somewhere. It’s not an easy relationship at most times for many people. I find it difficult to write about, and I’m impressed that you took on the topic.

    Congrats on #100.

  • The only that is constant is change and therefore my theories too i am sure 20 yrs from now will change….(yes Dush….life doesnt end at 25…)

Hell..why 20 yrs…i went in and changed my original post today…cos i want my theory to provoke thought not my writing….

  • Philosophical 100th! Something’s happenned…hasn’t it??
Anyways, keep the new found faith..someday it will help u more than u can imagine…
Do remember this one line from Matrix 3..when Neo is with the Creator of the Matrix, the creator tells him – “remember u’ve got a choice, but also remember that the choice has already been made”
    Take care D…lotsa luv
