I just got back from watching M.Night’s ‘Village’. I am now left with no doubts that he is the greatest story teller of our times. I know of no other director who can play with our minds as much as he does in a span of two hours.
why, I am sure the only reason he makes movies is that he can sit and watch the crowd till he last minute and then yell out..”Losers, its not what you thought, here’s what actually happened!”.
As we exited the movies, I could see the people hated the movie. I am sure the critics would compare it to his previous work and those who still think that he makes scary movies would continue to be disappointed.
But you have to understand his viewpoint. Yes, he does make use of sound and direction to shock us a bit here and there, but that is not his main agenda. Behind each movie he made, he told a story. A story that unwound so well that the viewers were hooked till the last minute. When the twist did unravel, the movie watchers feel revolted and angry because they realize that they have been had. By a genius. And he gets them evertime.
Look for virtue that underlies any of his movies. His last movie, signs had heaps of faith thrown in, and this one continues the trend with love and hope in bountiful.
I shall not reveal the ending because I feel bad doing so and spoiling the feeling for those about to watch the movie. But I do want to say that look at the what movie hides. See what he is really trying to do. Give him a minutes thought and think of the Genius that he is.
